2017 Aiteo Cup: Tornadoes in the dark over N10m prize money, governor’s largesse

2017 Aiteo Cup runners up, Niger Tornadoes are yet to receive their N10million prize money almost a year after, SportingLife.ng has been informed.

The Ikon Allah Boys lost 3-2 on penalties to Akwa United after a goalless draw in the final played at the Agege Stadium on Sunday, 15th October, 2017.  However the Hon. Adamu Aliyu Mohammed-led management was dissolved on Dec. 14, 2017, making way for a new nine-man committee headed by Abubakar Gawu.

Top source in the team revealed to SportingLife.ng that while Akwa United have gotten their own share of N25million, Tornadoes players are yet to receive theirs, including another N10million promised by the Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello.

“We are yet to receive our prize money of N10million for finishing second in the competition. Akwa United who won the competition have collected their own. They have received theirs before the Ramadan fasting period. Their chairman even showed us the alert on his phone and we did not know the whereabout of our own.

“In a club, the chairman, accountant and secretary are signitary to the account and each time when money comes into the account, the three of the will see the alert. But in our own case we’ve not seen anything. We don’t know who they gave or paid.

“We have discussed it with our New chairman and he said he knows nothing about it. When we approached the former chairman, he also told us he did not receive any money.

“When we returned to the state after the final, our governor promised us N10million too and we have not seen that one till now. That makes it N20 million. So we are in the dark about the whole situation,” the source told SportingLife.ng.
