2018 AWCON FINAL: Beat South Africa, get $10,000 each, Pinnick tells Falcons
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been fired up ahead of this Saturday’s Africa Women’s Cup of Nations final against South Africa which will be played at the Accra Sports Stadium.
They have been promised $10,000 each as winning bonus to beat the South Africa ladies who are aiming to lift the title for the first time in the history of the competition. The Falcons had earned $3,000 for a win in the group phase but were earmarked for $5,000 each for victory in the Final.
President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick decided to double the amount when he visited the team at their AH Hotel on Thursday as a way of motivating them to go all out to retain the trophy.
The surprise gift was greeted with thunderous applause with the girls assuring the NFF President of overcoming their opponents to take back their pound of flesh. It will be recalled that South Africa known as Bayana Bayana shocked the defending champions by a lone goal in their opening group game.

Nigeria defeated South Africa 2-0 in the final of the second edition of the competition in Johannesburg in 2000, to retain the Cup they had won at the inaugural edition in Nigeria two years earlier.
