Former Nigeria International, Joseph Yobo has backed Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi to recover from injury ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Ndidi who is one of Nigeria’s most important players, sustained a season-ending hamstring injury while turning out for Leicester City in its 5-0 loss to Crystal Palace last weekend, which has placed some doubt about his prospects of making the 23-man squad to Russia.

In a chat with Sportinglife.ng, Yobo believes the 21 year old will be ready before hostilities begin in the group stage of the competition against Croatia, Iceland and Argentina.

“Six weeks is a lot but considering the fact what he has done within the short time, he has been able to show his quality in the Premiership, he is a wonderful player. This is his first World Cup, it would have been nice to have him fit for the world cup just after the league season because he is a very good player.

“I missed the last 10 games of the Premiership before the 2014 World Cup, so missed two and half months of football and I still made it to the World Cup. He has played a lot of games, maybe six weeks might be a little bit too much. If it was one month I will say it is good for him, he needs that rest so that he can be fresh getting into World Cup. But he is still a very young energetic player, so I don’t think it will be a problem, he will be good,” the former Everton and Fenerbahçe defender told Sportinglife.ng.
