2018 World Amputee World Cup:  Eagles rescue Amputee Eagles with N6.5m

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have come to the rescue of the Amputee Eagles ahead of the 2018 World Amputee Football Federation Cup in Mexico which kicks off in less than 14 days time.

The senior team who on Saturday defeated Libya 4-0 in the first leg of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom capital donated over N6.5m to the team to enable them prepare adequately well for the tournament which kicks off from October 24 to November 5.

The amount will surely reduce the financial burden of the Amputee Eagles who have been going cap in hand appealing for funds from both the corporate bodies and the federal government.

Amputee Football is a sport for the disabled which involves seven footballers, six outfield players who have extreme amputation, while goalkeepers have upper extremity amputation and use loft strands andcrutches to play, according to a member of the team, Ugochukwu Obieze. This will be Nigeri’s first appearance.
