2019 AFCON: CAF to announce new hosts in January

A new host for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations will be named at the extraordinary meeting of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) scheduled for Senegal on January 9, 2019 the continent’s football governing body has said.

Late last month, the CAF executive committee stripped Cameroon of the right following following its inability to meet the deadline with less than seven months to the competition.

CAF has called on countries interested to submit their bids on or before December 14, 2018 which closes around 10pm GMT on the same day.

South Africa who hosted the 2013 edition and Morocco have been pencilled as likely hosts as a result of the facilities both countries have.

Last week, the Egyptian FA announced last week that the country will not be going head to head with another Arab nation for the competition hosting right.

It will be recalled that South Africa stepped in to host the 2013 edition after original hosts Libya pulled out due to political crisis in the country.
