Former Nigerian international, Daniel Amokachi will need to see off England international, Michael Owen to progress to the next round of the FIFA favourite goal competition put together by the football governing body ahead of this year’s World Cup in Russia.
FIFA has shortlisted Amokachi and Owen’s goals along with other players, retired and still playing for the maiden competition.
Amokachi’s goal, a 25-yard stunner against Greece in the group stage of the 1994 FIFA World Cup in USA at the FOXboro Stadium is up against Owen’s goal, a solo effort against Argentina at the next edition four years later in France.
FIFA has therefore called on fans to vote for their favorite goal on the FIFA World Cup Facebook page with the winner moving to the next round.
Brazilian legend Pele, Diego Maradona, Saeed Al-Owairan, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Ronaldinho, Tim Cahill, Carlos Alberto, Diego Forlan, Roberto Baggio and Socrates have made the goals bracket.
Other nominees include Philipp Lahm, Manuel Negrete, Dennis Bergkamp, Gheorghe Hagi, Joe Cole, James Rodríguez, Lothar Matthäus and Robin van Persie.
