Nigeria’s first game will be against Malaysia on table four today while their last group match will against Belize on same day.

At the draw conducted yesterday at the venue of the table tennis event – Oxenford Studios, Nigeria was seeded among the top four teams with India, England and Singapore making the top three seeded teams in the men’s team event of the multi-sports championship.

In the absence of Aruna Quadri, whose club – Sporting is competing in the semiifnal of the ETTU Champions League, seven-time Olympian – Segun Toriola will lead Bode Abiodun, Olajide Omotayo and Azeez Jamiu against the eight-seeded Malaysia side and unseeded Belize team.

Nigeria’s neighbour – Ghana has been handed a tough group as the former Gold Coast nation will slug it out against number two seed, England and Guyana in Group B.

The Ghanaian side led by Derek Abrefa is aiming for quarterfinal place after failing to progress from the group at the 2014 edition in Glasgow, Scotland.

A determined Abrefa told SportingLife.ng from Gold Coast yesterday that they are primed to make it to the last eight having arrvied early in Australia for the tournament. “We are here with a lot of determination and we knew what we went through in Glasgow four years ago. But we are in Gold Coast to first of all make it to the last eight and see what will happen after that,” the Ghanaian number one said.
