Chinese club flies Martins to London for surgery

Nigeria international, Obafemi Martins has been flown to London by Chinese club, Shanghai Shenhua for a knee surgery billed for Friday morning.

 

 

Nigeria international, Obafemi Martins has been flown to London by Chinese club, Shanghai Shenhua for a knee surgery billed for Friday morning.

The player who was injured on Tuesday night while on duty for Shenhua in the Asian Champions League clash against Kashima Antlers of Japan was pictured at the airport on Thursday on a wheel chair.

In the picture, Martins who would accompanied by the team’s doctor was surrounded by the club officials, who were at the airport to convey their best wishes to their warrior and hero.

The update was provided by Shanghai Shenhua on their Twitter handle who had earlier announced that the player will be out for about seven months.

”Taking into account the time and visa and other factors, after consultations with the players themselves, Martins will fly to London on BA169 at 11 am Beijing time this morning,” Shanghai Shenhua stated in a press release.

The 33-year old suffered a ruptured hamstring of quadricep on his right knee to bring an end to his season and also his chances of making the Super Eagles squad for the World Cup.

Just last Saturday, Martins grabbed a hat-trick for Shanghai Shenhua against Hebei China Fortune in the Chinese Super League which led to many rooting for his return to the Eagles ahead.
