Martins undergoes successful surgery

Shanghai Shenhua and Nigerian forward, Obafemi Martins has successfully been operated on in London.

The 33-year old who was flown to London last week suffered a ruptured hamstring of Quadricep on his right knee while on duty for Shanghai Shenhua in the Asian Champions league game against Kashima Antlers which ended 2-2 last week.

The club posted a picture of Martins on the bed, giving a thumb sign, with his right leg strapped from his thigh to his leg on their Twitter account. “Martins had a successful surgery in UK,” the post read.

With the operation, Martins will be out for the next seven months,  bringing an end to his chances of making the Super Eagles squad for the World Cup.

Fans began to root for the player’s inclusion in the senior team after he grabbed a hat-trick two weekends ago to announce himself in the Chinese Super League season.
