ICC World T20 Sub-Regional Qualifiers: NCF names squad for Nigeria

From the 24 players invited to camp for the International Cricket Council (ICC) World T20 Sub-Regional Qualifiers, the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has named a 15-man team that will represent Nigeria at the championship.

From the 24 players invited to camp for the International Cricket Council (ICC) World T20 Sub-Regional Qualifiers, the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has named a 15-man team that will represent Nigeria at the championship.

In the list made available to SportingLife.ng, three foreign-based made the list and they are United Kingdom (UK)-based Shola Anyia, Australia-based Saheed Akolade and Canada-based Oladotun Olatunji.

The captain of the team is Chimezie Onwuzulike while other members of the squad include Ademola Onikoyi, Daniel Gim, Isaac Okpe, Seye Olympio, Joshua Ayannike, Bimbo Adu, Sylvester Okpe, Suleimon Runsewe, Taiwo Mohameed, and Isaac Danladi, while the reserve player is Adewoye Vincent. The head coach is Uthe Ogbimi, while the team manager is Oghenekome Agodo.

The team played four friendly matches and wining all of them in readiness for the championship which kicks off this weekend.

According to the Secretary General of NCF, Taiwo Oriss, the team concluded its warm-up matches yesterday and they are expected to be unveiled to the public tomorrow.

“The federation has done everything within its reach for Nigeria to have a good outing by ensuring that the team play quality friendly matches and we are happy that they won all the matches including the one against the Lagos Asian. The final list has also been concluded and it took a thorough job from the technical crew to name the final squad. We are confident that they will surely make Nigeria proud,” Oriss said.

Already, some of the participating teams are expected to start arriving today in order to acclimatize with the scenario in Lagos.

The regional qualifier is among four nations which include Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Gambia with the top two teams qualifying for the Africa Nations event and World league subsequently.

Also the venue of the tournament, Tafawa Balewa Oval is wearing new look following the renovation job carried out by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the championship.
