Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr has expressed his disappointment that the Abuja National Stadium never hosted any of the team’s World Cup qualifying matches  due to its poor pitch.

Playing in the capital of the countries that Rohr worked, still holds  memorable moments for the coach, who was equally looking forward to having the Eagles friendly against Congo DR in Abuja on May 28.

He felt that since the Eagles qualifying matches were played in Uyo, it would have therefore been ideal to have the friendly in Abuja to say thank you to Nigerians.

“In Libreville, Niamey, Quagadougou, l played matches at the National Stadium of these countries. But not in Nigeria. Abuja is big, but not good grass.

“l have always wanted to begin the team’s World Cup camping in Nigeria for different reasons before going overseas. Abuja was in my plan as the capital. Look at Morocco, they have a wonderful pitch in Casablanca but they are moving straight to Europe. But not for me. I wanted Nigeria for our first phase,” he told SportingLife.ng this week.
