Head Coach, Gernot Rohr has revealed that the defence line-up that he fielded against Serbia in Tuesday’s friendly has been the youngest to be picked by him in his entire career.
The quartet of Brian Idowu, Tyrone Ebuehi, William Troost- Ekong and Chidozie Awaziem, who was included at the last minute for Leon Balogun, were in action against the Serbs.
“Our defence on that night was the youngest that I have ever paraded as a coach with the average age being 23-years.” he said.
“We tested some new players. The objective was not to win but to test the team without players like Odion Ighalo, Mikel Obi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Etebo Oghenekaro and Victor Moses who was removed in the 2nd half. On these positions we have now more certitude”, Rohr disclosed to SportingLife.ng.
He expressed satisfaction with the performance of goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, midfielder Joel Obi and left back Idowu and cleverly confirmed that they had made the team for the World Cup.
“I am not sad about the result, not at all. Friendlies are laboratories to test players and systems. The result will wake up the players and build their character.
