Stop interfering in Nigeria Basketball League, court tells Kida, Umar
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Wednesday, 20th March , 2019 restrained the two factions of Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) to stay away of the affairs of the Nigeria Basketball pending the determination of the substantive case.
The Lead Counsel to the management of Kwese Premier League Barrister Josiah Daniel Ebune who spoke to Sportinglife.ng said the court order prohibited both factions from conducting any fresh Premier Basketball League for the purpose of selecting men’s representative at the 2018/2019 Africa Continental Basketball Championship pending the final hearing of the substantive suit.
The Order is contained in suit no. FHC/ABJ/CS/13172016 as the plaintiffs, the management board of Kwese premier league, Alhaji Ibrahim Sa’ad Chairman Gombe Bulls Basketball Club and Dr. Adegbite Adeyemo Chairman Kwara State Basketball Federation and defendants Nigeria Basketball Federation, Musa Kida and Tijani Umar factions from Nigeria Basketball League
Barrister Ebune, argued that the stakeholders of the basketball cannot continue to suffer or put the league on hold due to leadership crisis of no fault of theirs. The applicant believed that the order will give room for smooth running ofbthe basketball league without interference from the two factions.
The Order made reads
1. THAT AN ORDER OF INTERLOCUTORY INJUNCTION is hereby made restraining the defendants by themselves, agents, pribiies and/or servants whosoever and however defined from going ahead with conducting any fresh Premier Basketball League for the purposes of selecting mem’s representatives of the 2018/2019 African Continental Basketball Championship pursuant to the letter of invitation to 2018 NBBF Premier Basketball League contained in the letter to that effect ahead of October, 2018, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
2. THAT AN ORDER OF INTERLOCUTORY INJUNCTION is hereby made restraining the defendants by themselves, agents or servants from enforcing or further enforcing or giving effect or further effect to the documents titled: RE: INVITATION TO 2018 NBBF PREMIER BASKETBALL LEAGUE and/ or from imposing or further imposing any guidelines, eligibility or conditions for the purposes of selection and/or conducting any league for purpose of selecting NigerianMale Basketball Representative for African Continental Competition, any condition to that effect, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
