Okereke and his Nigerian compatriot, Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis were drawn in Group A along with the French champions, PSG, Spanish and record winners of the Champions League, Real Madrid and Turkish superpowers, Galatasaray but the midfielder affirmed that they are battle-ready to face their opponents headlong one after the other.
He said they won’t be content with seeking a third-place finish ahead of Galatasaray because they know that in football anything could happen and that outcome of matches are not determined until they are played.
“We have to give the six games our best shots and strive to be at our best to ensure that we end the group stage games well,” Okereke told SportingLife.ng.
“We won’t be content with just fighting with Galatasaray for the third place because this is football in which anything can happen we just have to go out there and give our very best and play every game as if it is our last. We must make use of our home advantage to see if we can get anything positive out of it.
“The first to the third position which will ensure progression to the next round is still open to all the four teams in the group.”
The former Spezia of Italy midfielder also expressed his amazing feeling at the opportunity to play against PSG and Real Madrid and that he is looking forward to those matches with bated lips.
“It will be a dream come true for me to play in Paris against PSG and in Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu Stadium,” he continued.
“It is something I can’t wait to happen because for me it is a dream come true and it is something I will like to be part of. We have the players to prosecute both the Belgian League and the Champions League. We have 28 good players and those that are not playing currently are as good as those that have been selected to play for the team.”
