Ronaldo sets new goals record after hitting brace against Parma
Cristiano Ronaldo added another record to his name after scoring both goals in Juventus’ 2-1 win over Parma.
The 34-year-old shows no signs of slowing down and his goals in the 43rd and 58th minutes mean he has now scored in seven straight Serie A games.
He is the first Juventus player to do so since David Trezeguet managed the feat in December 2005.
Ronaldo’s red-hot form this season has seen him take his league tally to 16 – second best in the table.
And he is currently the only player in the top five European leagues to score at least 15 goals in each of the last 14 seasons.
He is also the first Juventus star since 1960 to score 16 goals in his first 20 Serie A games of the season.
Ronaldo – who recently humiliated Chris Smalling with a sublime bit of skill – struck 21 times in the Italian top flight last season.
But his haul of 16 now is some way off Lazio striker Ciro Immobile, who has scored 23 already.
Ronaldo’s goals helped open up a four-point lead at the top of Serie A after Antonio Conte’s Inter were held to a 1-1 draw against Lecce.
Paulo Dybala provided the assist for Ronaldo’s second and Juve chief Maurizio Sarri said that showed it was a myth that the pair could not play well together.
He said: “It seems to me that Dybala is doing the best things this year with everyone, he is always doing well.
“With him and Ronaldo, we have fewer players in the middle, but lately with them both we have always created and scored.
“I consider it a myth that the two of them have difficulty playing together, Cristiano is also scoring and I don’t see any problems whatsoever.
