Player sentenced to three months for COVID-19 curfew breach

Serbian international Aleksandar Prijovic has been sentenced to three months of house arrest for failing to comply with the nation’s rules to combat the coronavirus epidemic.

The 29-year-old, who plies his trade with Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, was arrested on Friday at a hotel in Belgrade along with around 20 people who had all met for drinks.

Serbia has imposed a ban on gatherings of more than five people in closed spaces.

The Serbian government has imposed a series of measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, including a curfew between 17:00 and 05:00 on weekdays and total lockdown on Sundays.

There have been 1,624 confirmed coronavirus cases and 44 deaths in Serbia.
