Adepoju said this at the Ballers Award ceremony held at the Oriental Hotels Victoria Island, Lagos on Sunday. Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi was named best men’s player of the year, while Onome Ebi was named the best player in the Women’s category.

Asisat Oshoala was the only Nigerian that won at CAF awards last week, but Mutiu Adepoju believes that could change this year.

“I am delighted with the total organisation of the event, and I want to give kudos to the organisers of this showpiece,” Adepoju said.

“I must admit that the players named for these awards deserved  their place even though the best went home with the awards at the end of the day.”

“If going by the list of Super Eagles players that won the awards, I see no reason why we can’t be among the CAF best 11. This is 2020, Nigerian players must raise the standard of their game to be reckoned with in the CAF Awards, he added.
