AFCON 2019: Ighalo wins Golden Boot Award
Super Eagles’ striker, Odion Ighalo has won the Golden Boot Award of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nation which ended in Cairo, Egypt last night.
China-based forward scored five goals to capture the award and help the Super Eagles of Nigeria win a record 8th bronze medal at Africa’s flagship tournament.
Ighalo who was the highest goal scorer during the 2019 AFCON qualifiers opened his goals’ account of the tournament in Nigeria’s first group game against the Swallows of Burundi which ended 1-0.
He had to wait until the second round tie against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon to grab a brace as Nigeria defeated Cameroon 3-2.
The ex-Watford attacker went further to score two more goals in the semi-final loss to Algeria and in the 1-0 victory against the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in the third-place match to take his tally to five.

He edged out Algeria’s Adan Ounas, Sadio Mane of Senegal, Cedric Bakambu of Congo DR and Riyad Mahrez who all scored three goals.
