AFCON final will be decider to Mane, Salah debate- Geremi

The Africa Cup of Nations will be concluded on Sunday evening with a mouth-watering final between Senegal and Egypt.

While Senegal defeated Burkina Faso 3-1 to secure their spot in the flagship showpiece, Egypt was pushed all the way to a penalty shootout by host country Cameroon before it got the upper hand.

So a memorable tournament concludes with two of the favorites going head to head as well as Liverpool teammates Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Cameroon, Chelsea and Newcastle legend Geremi Njitap while analysing for Sportsmail gave his expert opinion of the epic final on Sunday, submitting that the final will settle the debate over who is the best between Mane and Salah.

As a player, you don’t get too many opportunities to play in these kinds of matches, so it will ,mean a lot and they will take it so seriously.

Senegal eye first trophy

We have two great teams with great players and on occasions like this it’s those great players who like to make a difference and write their name in the history of their country.

At the beginning of the tournament, I spoke to some Senegal officials and they said it was their time.

They have never won the Africa Cup of Nations so will do everything they can to do it this time. They have a very strong team and some very good individuals in there.

Egypt does have the experience of winning the AFCON  seven times  which is why they are the most successful side in Africa. They have that experience of winning.

Offensively they don’t play very well, but they know you don’t always have to score in these types of tournaments. You have to manage it match by match and I think they do.

They did this all the way to the final and in the final they will try to be strong defensively and wait until the end to try and score a winner. This is their tactic and it usually works.

I think Senegal will definitely dominate the game, but dominating doesn’t mean you will win. Look at the semi-finals, Cameroon dominated the entire match against Egypt, but then lost on penalties.

This contest will be interesting because it will help determine the winner. This trophy counts at the end of the season when they are in the race to become the best player in the world.
