AFCON Ouster: Gabon Government Disbands Aubameyang led-Panthers

Gabonese government has disbanded the senior national team with immediate effect, following its inability to qualify for this year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The Panthers failed to get needed results against Burundi in Bujumbura in the last round of matches in the qualifier despite having Arsenal’s striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang in their line up.

The country government through the Sports Minister, Billie By Nze announced the decision on Wednesday.

Gabon finished 3rd with 7 points from 6 matches behind Burundi with nine points and Group C winner, Mali who had 11 points.  Head coach Daniel Cousin was also given the boot.

He directed the federation to get another coach within 60 days and start recruiting new players for the national team.
