AFCON qualifier: Prepare for war against Benin!, Shorunmu warns Super Eagles

Former National team goalkeeper’s trainer, Ike shorunmu, has warned Super Eagles to fully gird their loins against the hosts’ Republic of Benin in Friday’s AFCON qualifier in Port Novo.

According to the former Nigeria number one goalkeeper, Benin will go all out to maintain their eight-year-old unbeaten record at home against star-studded Super Eagles.

Speaking on a programme anchored by former Eagles defender, Ifeanyi Udeze, on the Sports Radio 88.9fm, Shorunmu said Squirrels will try their possible best to pull a string with every advantage at their disposal during the all-important duel.

“Mark my word, Benin are no pushover and Nigeria should strategise well to break the team’s unbeaten runs. The players should be focused and determined to end the game in favour of Nigeria. It is going to be a real business affair. The coach must have informed the players about the importance of the match,” he said.

Shorunmu also believed that the coach is working on the best goalkeeper he has chosen to man the post. He said only the technical crew has the privilege to select the best because they have seen all the players in-and-out in training and knows the right positions to place them.

“It is difficult for someone outside to see what is happening on the inside. We cannot say categorically about the strength of the team only the coach knows the abilities of each player and we hope to see the best from the team against the Republic of Benin,” he stressed.

Benin is living no stone unturned to outwit Nigeria by inviting virtually all their players in France to play the match. The players are motivated and ready for the game.
