BREAKING: Trézéguet’s extra-time goal breaks Morocco’s back in AFCON q-finals

Trézéguet’s 100th-minute goal in the extra time booked Egypt into the semi-finals of the AFCON contest after a 2-1 win over Morocco in Cameroon.

A cross from the right-wing by unmarked Mohamed Salah was all Trézéguet needed to shoot in the decider after both sides played 1-1 in the regulated time.

Salah had equalised for Egypt in the 53rd minute to make the game 1-1 against Morocco in the ongoing AFCON quarter-finals.

Sala became Egypt’s hero as he was in the right place to convert a rebound from close range after Mohamed Abdelmonem’s diving header from a corner had been parried by Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.

As soon as Mohamed Salah started on the right-wing in front of the several hundred Egypt fans the noise increased and the atmosphere changed.

That seemed to transfer first to Salah and then the rest of the team – his moments of trickery on the edge of the area gave his team confidence and even though the goal was a little normal for Salah it could provide a spark for the whole team.

Boufal had scored for Morocco in the sixth minute of the first half.

The Egyptians are billed to face the host Cameroon in the semi-finals.
