Afcon ticket: Eagles is South Africa’s biggest hurdle– admits Maake

A key supporter of South Africa’s national football team, Saddam Maake believes the biggest hurdle for Bafana Bafana to qualify for the 2019 AFCON is Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

With the draw against Seychelles on Tuesday, Maake told Soccerladuma.co.za that the Coach Stuart Baxter side has put themselves under pressure in their qualification . Maake says that the biggest hurdle will be to overcome Nigeria.

“We would have (to fight) with Nigeria over that one point, if we fail to get it we would have (to take) it from Libya. But now the burden is a lot now. Yes they say it’s better to beat your opponent at home and draw with them away. Yes, they did that but it should have been a 2-2 or 4-4 draw you see. This draw killed us.

“Yes the boys played well (on Saturday) the stadium was empty but (at the) end of the day, the results were the best. It has never happened that they score 6 goals, hence I say they undermined this (team). (Seychelles) were defending, it’s only one shot that Khune saved. As supporters we still have hope and you know why I’m saying that? Out of the six points remaining, we must use it.

“We must beat Nigeria and Libya so we can make sure our passports are ready for us to go to Cameroon. It can happen, we (can) beat Nigeria back to back. If we can beat them (in) their own backyard, what can stop us here at home? We must just go there and make a lot of noise. A draw is not acceptable, a loss is not acceptable. They must be beaten twice because they have been abusing us for too long. Now we must go for a win, not a draw because this Seychelles thing has cost us a lot,” he added.
