AFCON: Tunisia’s match will be toughest for Super Eagles – Okocha

Nigerian legend Jay Jay Okocha praised Austin Eguavoen-led Super Eagles after coming tops of AFCON 2021 Group D but was quick to warn the next game against Tunisia will be difficult.

The Super Eagles defeated Egypt, Sudan and debutants Guinea-Bissau to finish as Group D winner with nine points and they are the only side with 100 percent record in the tournament.

However, their title credentials will be tested when they face 2004 Champions Tunisia in the round of 16 of the competition.

“I think it is good to see that we are flying high but the most important one is the next game and we can only justify our performances so far if we go on and win the next one.” Okocha said while speaking on his punditry role with Supersport.

“So every next game is the toughest one for you and the one you have to win,” Okocha said.

“I hope we will carry on the good job that we are doing so far.”

Okocha, who captained the team during his play days, added that the team has made massive progress under Coach Austin Eguavoen and he’s glad the players are paying him back with good performances.

“He has got a great team of not just eleven good players but also twenty-something good players that he can rely on.

“There is nothing better for the coach than giving a player a chance and him paying you back by restoring his confidence in you,” he concluded.
