Bizertin midfielder Boubacar Traore thrust Mali ahead 16 minutes into the match before Metz forward Amadou Ndiaye replied for Senegal 15 minutes before time.

The contest spilt into extra time, and with neither side able to separate themselves from the other, a penalty shootout was needed to decide the champions.

It took the lottery of penalties again for Mali who similarly beat Nigeria in the semifinals to storm into this final match.

It was also revenge for Mali who were defeated by Senegal in the group stages of this tournament.

And for Senegal, it was agony as they lost their third successive Under-20 Afcon final.
