AFCON: Yobo okays Ekong and Omeruo partnership

Super Eagles assistant coach Joseph Yobo said he is pleased with defenders Kenneth Omeruo and William Troost-Ekong’s partnership at the ongoing 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.

Omeruo and Ekong have been solid at the back for the time African champions at the ongoing 2021 African Cup of Nations.

The duo put in a great shift against Egypt in the opening Group game last Tuesday and then followed it up, with masterclass against the Sudan on Saturday.

Speaking of the performance so far, Yobo said:

“I am very pleased with the central defenders. Players come in and out. It is a partnership and not all about individual performance.”

“This is what we keep working on. In the two games, it was only a penalty that was scored against us.”

“It could have been ruled out but we are improving and have some sound players in and out,” Yobo said.

Ekong and Omeruo are likely to be rested for the final Group game against Guinea-Bissau.
