only NPFL sides to have made the top 50 clubs in Africa according to footballbasedata.com

In its latest ranking published after the conclusion of matches played on September 9, 2018, Enyimba
who are preparing for their quarter final first leg clash against Rayon Sports of Rwanda were ranked 30
while Awka emerged the 50th best team on the ranking which is led by Egyptian club Al Ahly. Both Enyimba and
Akwa have 1434 and 1400 points respectively.

Egypt’s Al Ahly who remain the most successful club in the history of the CAF Champions league which they have won eight times, are followed by Esperance of Tunisia with Democratic Republic of Congo leading club, TP Mazembe coming third.  17 clubs from the North African region dominate the list with four clubs from South Africa namely Mamelodi Sundown, Bidvest Wits, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs also making the
list.

It would be recalled that in July of this year Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) reduced Nigeria’s slots in boththe 2019 Champions League and Confederation Cup to one after the country’s poor showing on the continent.

Towards this end, Lobi Stars of Makurdi would represent the country in the CAF Champions League after the abrupt end of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) while the winner of the Federation Cup will feature in the Confederation Cup.
