Aftermath of pay cut revelation: Heartland tells Ezenwa to shut up

Ikechukwu Ezenwa has been told to shut up by the management of Heartland FC of Owerri after the Super Eagles’ goalkeeper revealed that his salary and that of other members of the squad were slashed by the club.
SportingLife exclusively reported last week that Ezenwa lost about N200,000 from his monthly wage with other players and technical crew losing various sums ranging from N150,000, N200,000 and N250,000.
The team’s goalkeeper Agbo was said to be the worse hit as the sum of N250,000 was slashed from his N400,000 salary leaving him with N150,000.
However, as expected the story has elicited an angry reaction from top officials of the club who believed that such issues are internal matters which shouldn’t get into the public domain through a respected player like Ezenwa.
A source close to the Nigeria international said: “The media officer of Heartland called Ezenwa on behalf of the club to register their displeasure that he (Ezenwa) went to the media and revealed such an internal matter. Ezenwa was told that such information should not be coming from him and should desist from making further comments.
“Ezenwa was so angry that he lambasted the official who called him for having the audacity to question him for fighting for his right and he vowed to continue agitating for all the amount slashed to be restored as soon as possible.
“Ezenwa stated that before the salary of a professional footballer is slashed for whatever reason, the club must discuss with the player which Heartland management never did”

The former Enyimba goalkeeper also maintained his earlier position to seek legal intervention in the event that the club failed to clear the money they are owing him.
