Agbonlahor retires from football at 32

Gabby  Agbonlahor has formally announced his retirement from football, at the age of 32.

The former Aston Villa forward remains the club’s all-time leading Premier League scorer with 75 goals.

However Agbonlahor has been without a club since last summer when he called time on his 17-year career at Villa Park and has now finally decided to hang up his boots.

The former England forward said: “I haven’t made a big deal about it by posting anything on social media. But no, that is me done.”

Agbonlahor was pictured partying on the eve Villa’s demotion to the Championship was confirmed and has remained a peripheral figure ever since.

But the lifelong Villa fan says he hopes his old club wins promotion this season, under Dean Smith.

He said: “The way they are playing at the moment, they are flying.

“If you asked every Villa fan they’re buzzing at the moment about the team and their chances of promotion.

“The way they are playing they should not be scared of anyone.”
