Aguero urged to snub Chelsea offer

Barcelona legend, Rivaldo has urged Sergio Aguero to join his old side, despite reported interest from Chelsea.

Manchester City’s record scorer is set to be on the move at the end of the season, bringing the curtain down on a legendary career at The Etihad.

Aguero, who has 258 goals in all competitions, has formally announced he will leave City, with his final game set to come in the Champions League final later this month.

The Argentinian has yet to confirm his next move, with full focus on ending his final season in Manchester on a high.

Sky Sports claim that Aguero’s representatives have held initial talks with Barcelona, who are keen to link him up with compatriot Lionel Messi.

The two are understood to be close friends and Aguero’s arrival could help ease fears over Messi potentially leaving the Nou Camp.

A move for the soon-to-be free agent suits Barcelona well, due to their difficult financial situation in the wake of the disbanded European Super League.

Recently-elected president Joan Laporta is also believed to have pinpointed the City legend as soon as he won the contest back in March.

Chelsea have also been linked with the 32-year-old as Thomas Tuchel eyes an upgrade in the striking department.

The German has used a number of options up top since replacing Frank Lampard in January, but few have staked their claim strognly enough.

However, Rivaldo, who spent five years with the Blaugrana between 1997 and 2002, believes Aguero would be a perfect fit for Ronald Koeman’s side.

“Rumours tell me that Barcelona are negotiating with Sergio Aguero to sign him when he leaves Man City at the end of the season,” the Brazilian told Betfair.

“He’s been magnificent at City and, at 32, I’m sure he will be ready to compete with Barcelona.

“He still has a lot of football to play and would be a great signing for Barcelona, especially coming for free at a moment when our club is having some issues for financial reasons.”

Premier League legend Ian Wright, however, thinks a move to Stamford Bridge could see him top goalscoring charts again, after a bit-part season under Pep Guardiola.
