Akpeyi’s Kaizer Chiefs’ title hopes rest in Sundowns’ hands

Kaizer Chiefs’ hopes of lifting the Absa Premiership trophy this season could be left in Mamelodi Sundowns’ hands after the PSL confirmed a fixture change.

The South Africa club which parade Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi,  are currently enjoying a 10-point advantage at the summit of the log table after 13 rounds of fixtures played thus far, and will be looking to maintain this for as long as possible.

Sundowns, meanwhile, have two games in hand and will be desperately looking to downsize the lead as they gun for a third successive title as well as their 10th in the club’s history.

Well, things could shape up rather excitingly towards the final run-in for the title, with the PSL having moved Amakhosi’s home fixture against The Brazilians, which was initially billed for 1 February 2020, to 15 April 2020.

This will be the two teams’ fourth-last encounter of the league campaign, which is set to end just three weeks later on 9 May.

Please note that Amakhosi will now play the Clever Boys on Wednesday the 18th of March 2020 and no longer on the 21st of January 2020.

Furthermore, The Glamour Boys will also have to overcome Bidvest Wits, who have dropped to ninth on the log table but have five games in hand, on 18 March 2020 rather than 21 January as initially scheduled.

Both fixture changes have been brought about due to Downs’ and Wits’ participation in their respective CAF inter-club competitions.
