Akwa United ask Everton to step aside after NPFL flop

The management of Akwa United has reportedly asked their head coach, Rafael Everton to step aside in the wake of the team’s perceived unimpressive outing at the NPFL Championship Playoffs which ended yesterday at the Agege Stadium, Lagos.

Akwa United were the purists favourites to win the Super Six tournament having ended the regular season as the Group B winners but the team has strugged.

Reasons for the directive from the Akwa United’s management is not yet known but it will be connected with the Promise Keepers poor form in the tournament that will be used to determine the three teams that will represent Nigeria on the continent next season.

The Akwa United didn’t leave any vacuum as they named Abasiakan Windy as an interim coach until a new appointment is made.

Everton joined Akwa United at the beginning of the season and he was almost sacked after five games when the Promise Keepers began the season unimpressively but survived the storm after Akwa United staged a grand comeback to end the regular season on top of Group B.
