Alleged diversion of funds: Presidential Panel vows to arrest NFF officials

Chairman of the Special Presidential Investigation Panel on recovery of public property, Obono Obla has warned officials of the Nigeria Football Federation to appear before the panel after Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa on November 17 or risk being arrested.

The NFF officials led by its first vice president, Seyi Akinwunmi failed to appear before the panel on October 30 despite receiving the letter a week earlier.

The other officials are NFF second vice president, Shehu Dikko, Ahmed Fresh Yusuf, NFF Finance Director, Mohammed Cheku, Alizor Chuks of the Marketing department. They are under investigation for conspiracy and alleged case of diversion of public funds.

“The NFF wrote asking for a stand-down. We are in a democracy and we will not use Gestapo tactics,” he said.

“We invited you and you now gave an excuse and we granted the excuse. “But if after the match, it is clear you don’t want to come, we will arrest you, we have the powers to arrest,,” declared the chairman.

Obla further stated that the NFF President, Amaju Pinnick will also appear before the panel.

“It is not in my chairmanship that anyone mentioned will be excluded,” he stated.

“”Any fears now are misplaced, they should just allow us to do our work, ” he said.
