Alleged sexual harassment:  Amr Warda’s  Afcon duty cut short

Egypt international and POAK winger Amr Warda has been sent packing from the Pharaohs’ camp at the ongoing Nations Cup after he was accused of sexual harassment by Egyptian-British model Merhan Keller.

Merhan Keller alleged that Warda, 25, had sent her inappropriate and aggressive messages, and then followed her claims up by sharing testimonies from a number of other women who had contacted her claiming they too received unwanted messages from the footballer who is on loan to Atromitos from parent club POAK.

Screenshots of messages and videos allegedly sent by Warda to women on Instagram were shared on Twitter, with his alleged misbehaviour becoming the top trending subject in Egypt.

Calls for the Egyptian Football Association to take action grew and president Hany Abo Rida confirmed on Wednesday that Warda had been removed from the squad for their home tournament.

Amr Warda was in action for the Pharaohs in the opening match against Zimbabwe coming in as late substitute, replacing Abdalla El Said in the 71st minute in the match which the Pharaohs won by a lone goal thanks to 41-minute strike by Trézéguet.

The former junior international has so far made 29 appearances for the senior national with a goal to his credit.

Two players have so far exited the championship. While Amr Warda was sent packing over alleged sexual harassment Cameroon international Joel Tagueu has to be ruled out over heart defect.

According to team doctor Prof William Ngatchou, Tagueu had been undergoing similar scans for over eight years but those tests failed to highlight any issues.
