Ambode fulfills N20m pledge to CHAN Eagles

The Lagos State Government has fulfilled a pledge of N20 million to the Super Eagles B team that finished second at the Championship of African Nation (CHAN) in Morocco early this year.

The Lagos State Government has fulfilled a pledge of N20 million to the Super Eagles B team that finished second at the Championship of African Nation (CHAN) in Morocco early this year.

The Eagles lost 4-0 to Morocco in the finals but were deemed to have done enough to deserve N20million largesse from Lagos State.

At a short ceremony Tuesday at the Teslim Balogon Stadium, Goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye received the cheque on behalf of his teammates and commended the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode for fulfilling his promise.

While appreciating the governor’s kind gesture, Ajiboye noted that fulfilling the pledge would spur the players to do better in future. “I must commend Governor Ambode for the love he has shown to the Eagles. I am not surprised that he has redeemed his pledge because he is a sports-loving governor who is doing a lot to motivate athletes.”

Speaking earlier, Chairman of the Lagos State Spots Commission (LSSC), Dr Kweku Tandoh, who presented the cheque on behalf of the Governor, commended the Eagles for finishing second in Morocco despite the odds.

Tandoh stated that the gesture was to appreciate the players for their good run at the tournament and also encourage them to do better in future. “In line with Governor Ambode’s disposition, he made a pledge to the team in Morocco and he is finally releasing the money to the team through the LSSC.”

Lagos State Football Association chairman, who is also the first Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Seyi Akinwunmi described Ambode as an amiable governor, who has done a lot for sports in his state and Nigeria.
