NFF election: Pinnick insists he will not run

 

NFF President Amaju Pinnick has re-echoed his decision not to run for a third term as boss of the football house. Pinnick who is a CAF and FIFA Executive member said his decision stands following his family’s advice for him to step aside for good.

Speaking on Arise television, the former Chairman of Delta Sports Council admitted that there are competent hands who can handle the post  adding that he is ready to assist whoever emerges President of the Federation.  He however declared that he will ‘not interfere but readily intervene’

“There are so many Nigerians capable of being there (NFF boss). I will assist and work with anyone who wins the elections and emerge as president. That I promise. I will intervene but will not interfere.”he said.

Pinnick who was elected President of Nigeria Football Federation for the first term on 30th September 2014 has since enjoyed a second term which ends next month  with election expected to follow  all things being equal.

Three ex-internationals Benedict Akwuegbu, Jonathan Akpoborie and Peterside Idah are in the running for the position among several others.

The election has continued to generate interest with Senator Shehu Sani submitting that former Nigerian players need to step up and take the mantle of football administration. Taking to his twitter handle the Senator said “The NFF election is here again.Ex Nigerian Super Eagles should step forward and take the mantle of football administration.Emulate Samuel Eto & Drogba;Where is Okocha,Nwankwo,Amokachi,Odegbami and Babangida?
