Amuneke named Tanzania head coach

Former Chief Coach of Sudanese club Al Khartoum, Emmanuel Amuneke has been appointed the head coach of the Tanzania national team otherwise known as the Taifa Stars on a two-year deal.

Amuneke, a member of the 2018 FIFA World Cup technical study group in Russia takes over from Salum Mayanga who was fired due to poor results.

Before the appointment of the 1994 African Player of the Year, Tanzania had hired and parted ways with four different coaches since 2014.

The former Golden Eaglets coach whose job description has been already been spelt out by his new employers has the mandate of getting the country’s Nations Cup campaign back on track by making sure they defeat Uganda in their next game next month.

Meanwhile the Federation of International Football (FIFA)has congratulated Amuneke on his recent appointment.

“He scored twice for the Super Eagles at the 1994 World Cup. Now Emmanuel Amuneke will take the reins
as manager of Tanzania,” FIFA posted on their Twitter handle.
