Animated Tyson Fury plans fight in Melbourne

Tyson Fury did not hold back as he described his massive drinking party in Melbourne and announced he’s looking for a venue for a blockbuster heavyweight fight Down Under

An animated Tyson Fury spoke about his night on the tiles after landing in Melbourne to support his good friend Jospeh Parker in his fight against Faiga ‘Django’ Opelu on Wednesday night.

Fury, the current WBC heavyweight champion, arrived in Melbourne on Saturday and hours later was pictured in town drinking at the CBD Bond Bar nightclub.

The Gypsy King was greeted by the club’s VIP host George Christoudias and mingled with other guests for several hours.

During Monday’s press conference, Fury admitted he felt a little bad after getting stuck in a few drinks.

“I had a lot of drinks last night and I think I needed those too because I’m jet lagged,” Fury said.

“I think it’s around 3 a.m. where I’m from, so I feel like I’m in cuckoo land, so excuse me a bit.”

Fury, who has befriended Parker in recent years, explained why he made the long trip Down Under.

“Me and Joe are like brothers,” Fury said.

“He supported me in my career in Las Vegas and all over the world. I’m here to support him in his fight in Melbourne.

Fury has also confirmed he is traveling to Australia to scout a location for a potential boxing blockbuster – although no opponent has been named.

“I’m very happy to be here in Melbourne,” Fury said.

“It’s my first time in Australia. I’m looking to make a fight here so I’ll be traveling the country looking for different stadiums over the next few days.

“I’m 100% serious. [about fighting in Australia].’

It is understood that the main contenders to host a Fury fight are Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane and Marvel Stadium in Melbourne but Fury has no preference at this time.

Parker, who is Australasia’s most accomplished heavyweight, wants to make a statement when he takes on Opelu on Wednesday and get back in the title hunt.

“I want to perform and look good doing it,” Parker told foxsports.com.au.

“I want to show people why they chose me to come here and fight in Australia.

“Against Joe Joyce, I got sick before the fight and it really ruined all my preparation.”

However, the Kiwi heavyweight doesn’t take Opelu lightly and is ready for a battle when he steps into the ring.
