Anyansi: Why Enyimba retained Abdallah

Enyimba Chairman, Felix Anyansi Agwu has stressed that the club decided against relieving head coach, Usman Abdallah off his duties at the end of last season because of his giant strides with the People’s Elephant last season and to give continuity a chance.

He said the People’s Elephant have always liked continuity in their technical crew but that their coaches are always reviewed at the end of every season if they match the performance index they set for them.

“There is no way a team will want continuity because if you look at the number of years I have spent here,” Anyansi told SportingLife.ng.

“Continuity is key and it helps. It is a difficult question to answer because people think that every year we are satisfied with changing our coach. It is not true. A lot of factors come into play if a coach is to remain in charge or he moves on to another club.

“It is not the way it is perceived. It is not in our character to keep changing a coach. When a coach has established the zeal to do a good job we will always like to encourage such a coach. We have done that in the past with a whole lot of coaches. We also at Enyimba have a target and when you work with us we also have an opportunity to evaluate your contribution at the end of the season regardless of the result.

“If we consider your input throughout the course of the season is not up to the expected level we will move on. I think he deserves to continue the good job that he has done and he will give him all the support.”
