Appreciative Sissoko counts blessings of playing for Reds

 

Although he played for over 14 clubs in the course of his close to two decades romance with football, former Mali international Mohamed Sissoko has singled out Liverpool for special praise.

Momo Sissoko as he is popularly called played for current table toppers Liverpool between 2005 and 2008 making 87   appearances after joining the Reds from Valencia.

The 34-year-old midfielder has announced his retirement from football while underscoring his days in Liverpool as some of the most beautiful moments of his career.

“The response is easy: Thanks for all the love, thanks for everything. I’m very proud to be part of the Liverpool family,” Sissoko told the club’s official website.

“I came to a family team like Liverpool. I want to thank everyone in Liverpool, all of the supporters over the world.

“What they give me every day on social media is amazing. To be honest, for a football player, it’s a very special thing. I’m very happy for all the love of the Liverpool supporters.”

Sissoko was an important figure in the Rafael Benitez side that won the FA Cup in 2006 after beating West Ham United in the Cardiff final.

“This game was amazing and we won the title for Liverpool and for all the supporters,” he reflected. “I think that was the best moment of my time at Liverpool.

“A lot of good memories. I won some titles, I played with big, big players like Gerrard, Xabi Alonso, Luis Garcia. Just for this, I’m very happy.

Aside from Liverpool Sissoko who made over 33 appearances for the Eagles fo Mali in his 10 years in the naitonal team (2003-2013) also played for other top clubs like Juventus and PSG.

He also had a taste of the Chinese Super league playing for Shanghai Shenhua in 2015.
