Aribo, compatriots suffer huge post AFCON defeat at Rangers

Super Eagles ace Joe Aribo who returned to base from Cameroon over two weeks ago following Nigeria’s early exit from the Nations cup, suffered a huge defeat in the Scottish league on Wednesday.

Aribo, who as usual, played for the entire duration of the game versus Celtic saw visiting Rangers down by three goals in the first half with Japan ace Reo Hatate grabbing a brace.

As if the defeat was not enough headaches for Aribo, compatriots Leon Balogun and Carley Bassey saw yellow in the 76th and 52nd minutes respectively. The defeat puts Celtic in a pole position to reclaim the Scottish Premiership title even with Rangers just a point below.

Having seen their nine-year title-winning streak ended by Rangers last season, Celtic believe they have the manager, the squad, and experience to reclaim the Scottish Premiership crown.

It is however not done and dusted for Celtic with 14 games left to play.

“Celtic play at Fir Park against Motherwell on Sunday a few hours before Rangers host Hearts. While Celtic will be hoping to build on the victory, Rangers will be hoping to the defeat behind and return to winning ways.

Aribo who was impressive in Super Eagles mission to Cameroon despite the team’s failed project is on the radar of some premier league clubs including Aston Villa and Newcastle but the interest may have to return to the coolers following the closure of transfer window early this week.
