Arsenal ‘begin transfer talks’ to replace Lacazette

Arsenal are reportedly in talks to sign Eintracht Frankfurt’s Andre Silva as they look to bring in a replacement for Alexandre Lacazette.

The Gunners are keen to sell the French striker this summer as Mikel Arteta looks to revamp his squad for the new season.

And according to The Transfer Window podcast, the Premier League side have registered an interest in the Portugal international and have already entered discussions to secure a deal before the window closes.

But Arsenal have told Silva they need to offload players first before they can table an offer for the forward as Frankfurt have put a £34million price tag on their prized asset.

Lacazette is one of the many individuals the North London club are hoping to cash in on, but getting off his salary of £200k-a-week is proving to be a stumbling block.

Silva revived his career last season in the Bundesliga after a difficult few years at AC Milan and Sevilla. He finished second in the German scoring charts to none other than Bayern Munich talisman Robert Lewandowski with 28 goals to his name.

Arsenal could face competition for his signature, however, as RB Leipzig are said to be tracking the talented forward who is on international duty with Portugal at Euro 2020.

He said: “Nobody knows what will happen in the future. I live in the present and it feels very good right now.”

Another player Arteta could secure the required funds for Silva is Granit Xhaka who has taken a step closer to sealing a move to Roma.

Jose Mourinho made it clear the Swiss international is his number one priority this summer as he takes charge of the Serie A club.

And it seems like the former Tottenham manager is set to make the midfielder his first signing as the Italians have finally given into Arsenal’s demands.

Roma have been locked in talks with Arsenal in recent weeks as an opening offer of £12.8million rejected with the Gunners holding out for a fee closer to £20million.

However, La Gazzetta Dello Sport claims that Roma have met their asking price by tabling a £17m plus add-ons bid for Xhaka.

Xhaka was signed from Borussia Monchengladbach for a fee in the region of £35m in the summer of 2016.
