Arsenal set for complete overhauling, close in on £43m move

Arsenal are set for a busy summer in the transfer market as Mikel Arteta looks to better the Gunners’ underwhelming season this time out, and the north London side are being linked several names.

With only four Premier League fixtures remaining, attention has already turned to the summer transfer window.

It could prove to be a decisive period for Arteta as Arsenal look to close the gap to the top four next campaign.

Attracting new faces to the Emirates Stadium could prove challenging, but there is no doubt that change is needed at the club.

The ongoing effects of the coronavirus pandemic will mean many clubs are restricted in their efforts to improve, with Arsenal among those, though winning the Europa League and qualifying for the Champions League will surely boost their hopes of landing big-name signings.

Mirror Sport have taken a look at the latest gossip, with updates provided on the Gunners’ latest targets.

Mikel Arteta has strongly hinted at a mass clear out this summer as he looks to drag them up from the mid-table mediocrity Arsenal have had to deal with this season.

Ahead of last night’s second leg in the Europa League semi-finals, the Spaniard was asked whether this would be the last chance for plenty of his squad to win silverware in a Gunners shirt.

“I don’t want to think like that,” he replied.

“I want to think they always have the hunger to win any competition that they’re involved in.

“It’s true for some players that this might be the last season for different reasons and I can see how much it means for them.

“How much they want it and hopefully, we can do that tomorrow.”

Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a £43m move for Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez.

According to reports from Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo, Betis are willing to forgo Rodriguez’s £68m release clause to raise funds and help their financial situation.

Transfer chief Edu is believed to be looking for an alternative to Dani Ceballos, with the Spaniard set to return to Real Madrid when his contract expires.

And Rodriguez could slot in perfectly alongside Thomas Partey in that defensive-midfield pivot.
