Arsenal target not interested after rejecting Everton offer

Arsenal and Everton managerial target Marcelino is in no rush to return to frontline duty and will wait for further offers to come his way.

The former Valencia boss rejected the chance to replace Marco Silva at Goodison Park last month and has since been contacted about filling Unai Emery’s boots at the Emirates.

Marcelino

Marcelino is a free agent having left Valencia earlier this season after falling out with Mestalla chiefs over their objectives.

He remains highly rated thanks to his work with the La Liga giants – where he won the Copa del Rey last season – and their domestic rivals Villarreal over the past few years.

Arsenal are said to have spoken to Marcelino about taking the reins in north London, with Goal reporting contact was made following Emery’s dismissal.

Everton, meanwhile, remain interested in appointing the Spaniard, despite reportedly being rebuffed when they offered him the opportunity to succeed under-fire Silva in November.
However, Marcelino is ready to bide his time before taking his next manager job and is reluctant to be rushed into a decision on his future.

The 54-year-old, who also snubbed Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon last month, is waiting for more proposals to come his way.

He apparently needs convincing the club he’d prospectively be going to is stable and that he’d have a competitive squad at his disposal.

For the time being, Freddie Ljungberg is in interim charge of Arsenal and led them to a 2-2 draw against Brighton in his first match at the helm.
