Arsene Wenger: Eden Hazard cannot match Ronaldo

Arsene Wenger claims Eden Hazard will struggle to emerge from the lingering shadow of Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid.

Wenger on Hazard
Hazard has struggled to make his mark

The former Chelsea winger became Real’s latest Galactico in the summer when he joined for £130million but has struggled to make his mark.

Ronaldo, who is now at Juventus, carried the goal-scoring burden in the Spanish capital for so long, but Wenger does not think Hazard is equipped to make the same impact.

He told beIN Sports: ”He will be the answer but not in replacing Ronaldo that is for sure. They need another goal scorer in Real Madrid because Benzema is now 32 and if they had someone younger around him to score the goals, maybe they could do very well.”

The Belgian scored his first goal for the club in Real’s 4-2 win over Granada at the weekend in his sixth outing.

Ronaldo called time on his career at the Bernabeu with a staggering 451 goals to his name but Wenger thinks Hazard will truly shine when their is a poacher to convert all the chances he creates.

The former Arsenal boss continued:  ”Eden Hazard is an exceptional player to create chances to sometimes finish when he needs to do in big games. He’s not scared of anybody – I don’t think Real have yet to see the real Hazard,
he’s not as sharp physically as he can be.
