Asaba Stadium not good for Eagles–Rohr

Super Eagles’ head coach, Gernot Rohr has issued a damming verdict on the Stephen Keshi Stadium which hosted the final of the 2018 Aiteo Cup final which Rangers of Enugu won after coming from three goals down to stun Kano Pillars on Wednesday.

The Eagles coach in an interview with journalists said more work still needs to be done on the pitch to bring it up to international standard if it is to host matches involving the national team.

“It’s a nice stadium but they have to work more on the pitch for it to be up to standard to host matches of the Super Eagles,” said Rohr at the Asaba Airport.

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick had previously said in one of his visits to the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa that the Stadium would host one of the Eagles matches.

This must have prompted the NFF Chieftain to bring Rohr to Asaba for him to inspect the Stadium which coincided with the final.

Asked if he saw any player from both sides that could make the team, Rohr said there were none. His submission further confirms what he has always said about players from the domestic league as not good for the Eagles.

“I am satisfied with the match, but I didn’t really see one player better than the players I have.

“I saw somebody in the first half (Kano Pillars striker Nguwua Nyima), but I didn’t see him again in the second half, he said.
