Nigeria born Germany international Jamal Musiala has identified attacking midfield as his preferred position.

The Bayern Munich ace can operate on both flanks but will settle for the middle if given the option to choose.

Musiala was one of the breakout stars of 2020/21, registering six goals and one assist, whilst becoming Bayern’s youngest ever UEFA Champions League scorer.

England and Germany battled it out for his allegiance, with the former Chelsea academy player ultimately plumping for his country of birth before winning his fourth and fifth senior international caps at UEFA Euro 2020.  Playing for Nigeria was equally an option for the  for the impressive youngster before he settled for Germany.

“Everyone knows that attacking midfield is my preferred position because that’s where I have the game in front of me,” Musiala told Sport Bild.

“At Chelsea I played as a No.9 or second striker for a long time, and last season got a few games as a No.8. I also like to play out wide and get into one-on-ones. I love dribbling and scoring goals.

“The most important thing for me, though, is to play as many minutes as possible so I can develop. I want to become an important part of the team under Julian Nagelsmann!”

Musiala only got to work with his new coach in late July due to his international commitments, but had already touched base with the youngest Bundesliga tactician in history earlier in the summer.

“I was really pleased because the coach sent me a nice, motivating message after [Germany’s Euro exit] to England,” he divulged.

Musiala is gearing up for his second full season of Bundesliga football. He has made 27 appearances in Germany’s top flight, since debuting for the Bayern seniors on the penultimate weekend of 2019/20.
