Avram Glazer seen at Old Trafford first time in two years

Manchester United fans saw owner Avram Glazer at Old Trafford for the time in more than two years as he watched Cristiano Ronaldo’s return.

With Ronaldo the headline attraction having re-joined United from Juventus this summer, it was a must-have ticket and Glazer was no exception.

He last came to a United match at Old Trafford in August 2019 and it also marks the first time he has been in front of fans since the collapse of the doomed European Super League, which was foiled back in April this year.

The Glazers are far from popular owners among Manchester United’s loyal supporters and protests reached new levels during proposals for the side to join a breakaway Super League.

Fans infiltrated the stadium and a match against Liverpool was eventually abandoned due to safety concerns.

When tracked down in the United States by Sky News and asked if he would apologise to fans for trying to get United into a European Super League, Glazer refused.

United were believed to be one of the driving forces among English sides in pushing ahead with plans for a Super League.

Chief executive Ed Woodward eventually resigned when it all collapsed while Joel Glazer, brother of Avram and a vice president of the Super League, issued an open letter to fans by way of an apology.

‘Over the past few days, we have all witnessed the great passion which football generates, and the deep loyalty our fans have for this great club,’ he wrote.

‘You made very clear your opposition to the European Super League, and we have listened. We got it wrong, and we want to show that we can put things right.

The Glazer family bought united back in 2005 for around £780million.
