AWCON 2018: Ghana shuns Falcons, picks South Africa, Zambia for Friendlies

Africa Women’s Cup of Nations have overlooked Nigeria’s Super Falcons for an international friendly, and have picked South Africa, Zambia and Kenya to play against before the commencement of the tournament on November 17.

The three countries have been drawn in group B with Nigeria who are the team to beat because of their dominance on the continent which has seen them win the tournament eight times.

Initially Ghana had planned to tackle their West Africa neighbours before finalising arrangements with the other three countries, but it appears no concrete agreement was reached with the Nigeria Football Federation.

According to reports, the Black Queens will face Zambia on November 3 before taking on Kenya four days later and round off preparations with a friendly against South Africa prior to the start of the competition.

The Black Queens like Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea are aiming to host and win.

Ghana have been drawn against Cameroon, Mali and Algeria in Group A and would play all their preliminary matches at the Accra Sports Stadium.
