Awoniyi: It will be an honour to play for Eagles

Olympic Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi has stressed that it will be a personal honour to him and his family if he is considered worthy of a place in the star-studded Super Eagles team.

Awoniyi was in the Nigerian Under 23 team that came back from 2-0 down to maul Libya 4-0 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba to scale through to the final round of the U23 AFCON qualifiers where they will face Sudan.

Speaking with SportingLife.ng after the game, the Liverpool attacker who is on loan to Mouscron in the Belgian League disclosed that he will continue to give his best to any team he is called upon to play for.
He however opined that playing for the Super Eagles will be a honour for him having played for the Under 17, 20 and now the Under 23.

“I will always cherish every opportunity I have to represent my country and I am not choosy about the level to play,” Awoniyi told SportingLife.ng.

“It is always the dream of every player to play for the senior national team and it will be a dream come true for me. But I will wait for my time and will be happy to continue to help the Under 23 team.

“It was fun coming back from the jaw of defeat the way we did but we were very confident that we would stage a come back despite the 2-0 setback in Tunisia. We are through to the next round and we shall go into the final round confident that we can pick one of the tickets to the Under 23 AFCON.”
